Bradenton is located just south of the Tampa Bay area in Manatee County on US 41 between Tampa and Sarasota, Florida. The area is surrounded by waterways, both fresh and saltwater. Bordered on the north by the Manatee River, Bradenton is located on the mainland and is separated from the outer barrier islands of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key by the Intracoastal Waterway. Tropicana, the orange juice company is headquartered here.
Located on the Manatee River in downtown Bradenton is the South Florida Museum, Bishop Planetarium and Parker Manatee Aquarium. The South Florida Museum includes regional history from prehistoric times to the present. The Bishop Planetarium presents astronomy films and space science programs and the Parker Manatee Aquarium is part of Florida's manatee rehabilitiation network.
Enjoy Bradenton's Riverfront Theatre, shop at De Soto Square Mall, then see the De Soto National Memorial, the Family Heritage House Museum at Manatee Community College, and the Manatee Village Historical Park. The Manatee Village Historical Park includes an 1860 courthouse, an 1887 church, a 1912 settler's house, a 1903 general store and a 1908 one-room schoolhouse.
The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is located nearby in Sarasota, Florida and is connected to St. Petersburg, Florida by the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The Sunshine Skyway is a 5.5-mile (8.9 km) cross-bay bridge.
